Women's Soccer Routs York (N.Y.)

QUEENS, N.Y. -- The Mitchell College women's soccer team struck fast and often on Saturday afternoon, routing York College 6-1.

Elon Johnson got the Mariners started, beating the keeping and scoring unassisted for the first goal of the game. Cassandra Roman followed this up with an unassisted goal of her own, getting a rebound inside of the box and firing a low shot to score. Not long after, senior Mariah Travisano beat her defender just outside the 18-yard box and hit a great low shot in from range. Ileana Perez added a pair of goals before intermission, one on an assist by Johnson and one from Francesca Zamarripa

The Cardinals were able to get one back as Emelin Cajamarca scored shortly before the end of the first half.

Early in the second half, the York defense misplayed a pace and Araceli Archer was able to capitalize with just the goalkeeper to beat, finding the back of the net.

The Mariners (4-4-1) have now won four of their last five, and will look to stay hot on Thursday, October 6, at home against Old Westbury at 3:00 pm.
