Women's Soccer Drops NECC Opener at Lesley

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Mitchell College women's soccer team opened New England Collegiate Conference play with a 2-0 loss to Lesley University on Wednesday night at Minuteman High School.

Calli Masters scored a pair of goals for the Lynx, the first coming off an assist by Zoe Curtaz while the second was unassisted. Lesley improved to 4-7 overall, and the victory snapped their three game losing skid. 

Mitchell goalkeeper Gemma Landry got the starting nod and finished with a season high 19 saves against 21 total shots. Despite the loss, the Mitchell defense was strong throughout the day showing excellent resilience and limiting the Lynx to just two goals.

Masters first goal came in the 39th minute and gave the home team a 1-0 lead heading into halftime, while her second goal came in the 65th minute. They were the first two goals scored this season by the Lesley senior.

Elon Johnson was the lone Mariner to break through the Lynx defense, registering the only shot on goal.

The Mariners (4-6-1) continue conference play on at home on Saturday, October 15, when they host New England College at 1:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Lynx play at Fitchburg St. on Wednesday night at 6:00 pm.
