Women's Tennis Earns 7-2 Victory Over Albertus Magnus

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Mitchell College women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 victory over Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday afternoon at New London High School.

The Mariners (2-10 overall) swept all six singles matches for the decisive victory. Senior Miah Manning and junior Kelly Walsh also combined to take a point in the doubles portion of the competition, defeating the team of Alain Munley and Lindsay Robbins by an 8-1 final.

Freshman Julie Felts shut out Amanda Maurer at No. 1 singles, picking up a 6-0, 6-0 victory to get things started for the Mariners. At the No. 2 position, freshman Erica Fazio dropped the first set but was fighting back against Kendra Dowen in the second set before winning by retirement.

Manning, playing in the final home match of her career, picked up her first singles win of the season with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Lindsay Robbins at the No. 3 spot. Freshman Caitlin Brown also earned the first singles win of her career in a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Rebecca Shokite at No. 6.

Walsh and junior Ilana Papernik rounded out the wins in singles. Walsh defeated Megan McGarry by 6-0, 6-0 finals while Papernik beat Justine Compton 7-6 (7-5), 10-4.

Mitchell wraps up the regular season at Becker College on Thursday, October 15 at 3 p.m.
