Women's Tennis Drops Regular Season Finale at Becker

LEICESTER, Mass. - The Mitchell College women's tennis team lost its regular season finale by an 8-1 final at Becker College on Thursday afternoon.

The lone win for the Mariners (2-11 overall, 1-7 NECC) came at No. 6 singles, where junior Kelly Walsh fought back after dropping the first set for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory over Sarah Ryzewski. It was Walsh's third conference win of the season and second at the No. 6 spot.

Becker (12-5 overall, 6-1 NECC) swept the doubles matches and carried the momentum through to singles play. The Hawks won their five singles matches in straight sets.

The 2009 NECC Women's Tennis Championship will take place on October 17-18. The flighted championships will be hosted by Bay Path College at Enfield Tennis Club in Enfield, Conn. Saturday's matches are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. while Sunday's matches get underway at 10 a.m.
