Ryan Named NECC Player of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College sophomore Samantha Ryan was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of women's tennis, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.

Ryan picked up a pair of points in Mitchell's 8-1 victory over Albertus Magnus College last week. She teamed with Laura Simmons to earn an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles before winning in straight sets at No. 2 singles by finals of 7-6 (10-8), 7-5. The win was Mitchell's first since the 2012 season.

Ryan earned the distinction for the first time in her career. She is currently 2-0 this season in singles play, having also won her first match against the University of Saint Joseph by finals of 7-6, 7-5.

Mitchell (1-1 overall) will open NECC play at home against Lesley University on Saturday, September 20 at noon.
