Tennis Falls 6-3 to Bay Path

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 final to Bay Path College on Monday afternoon in a New England Collegiate Conference showdown at the Mack Tennis Courts.

Bay Path led 2-1 after doubles play thanks to wins at the top two spots. The Wildcats then won four of the six singles matches to cement the victory. Stephanie Morin, Brittany Walsh and Taylor Wood each secured wins in both doubles and singles to lead the way.

Both Walsh and Wood cruised to singles wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Walsh only dropped three games in her match while Wood blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Morin won her first set against Laura Simmons and led in the second, but the Mitchell newcomer fought her way back to force a third set. The two played a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a third set, and Morin came out on top by a 10-5 final.

Mitchell's Veyda McVey and Dominque Lacroix each posted singles wins. McVey won her third straight match by finals of 6-0, 7-5 over Edna Aboagye, and Lacroix split sets with Katrina Mannion before winning a third-set tiebreaker 10-3.

Mitchell's lone doubles point came at the No. 3 spot where Alexa Litwak and Lehayla Cruz pulled out an 8-6 victory.
