Simmons Named to NECC First Team

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Laura Simmons was one of six singles players named to the New England Collegiate Conference All-Conference First Team for the sport of women's tennis, as announced on Tuesday afternoon by the league.

Joining Simmons on the all-conference first team were Regis College's Jessie Lord and Erica Murphy, Lesley University's Carlyn Barker and Caroline Kiddie, and Becker College's Jacqueline Andrade. Simmons and Kiddie were the only first-year players to make the squad.

Simmons went 4-4 in NECC action for the Mariners while playing at the No. 1 position as a rookie. All four of her wins came in straight sets, and she was one of only two players to defeat Lord, who was named NECC Player of the Year.

Simmons is the first Mitchell player to earn all-conference first team honors since 2011, and she becomes just the second rookie in school history to earn the distinction.

Mitchell finished the season with an overall record of 2-8 and 1-7 in NECC play.
