Women's Tennis Falls to Bay Path


NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's tennis team fell to Bay Path University by a 6-3 final on Saturday afternoon in a New England Collegiate Conference tilt at the Mack Tennis Courts.

The Wildcats began the day by winning two of three doubles matches and then sealed the victory with four wins in singles. Taylor Wood and Yismel Rosario were victorious in both doubles and singles for Bay Path, which improved to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in NECC play.

Wood teamed with Brittany Walsh to produce an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. She then went on to post a straight sets win at No. 2 singles over Mitchell's Veyda McVey. Rosario and Kimberly Drahushuk won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles before the former won in straight sets at No. 3 singles. Edna Aboagye and Katrina Mannion also picked up singles victories at No. 5 and 6, respectively.

Mitchell's doubles point came courtesy of Dominique Lacroix and Lehayla Cruz at No. 2. In singles, Samantha Ryan won in straight sets at the top spot while Cruz rallied back from a set down to win in a 10-point tiebreaker at No. 4.

Prior to the match, the Mariners honored their three seniors – Ryan, McVey and Lacroix  in a special ceremony. 

Mitchell (2-4 overall, 2-3 NECC) will next play at Newbury College on Tuesday, September 29 at 7 p.m. Bay Path will next host Albertus Magnus College on Sunday, September 27 at 1 p.m.
