Mitchell Drops Two Matches at Coast Guard 

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/4/08)-Mitchell dropped two matches at the Coast Guard on Saturday. Coast Guard Senior Nicole Gurr (Acton, CA.) had 21 kills, 18 digs, 10 aces and eight blocks leading Coast Guard to a win over Mitchell on Homecoming Weekend.

Coast Guard beat Mitchell 3-0 (25-6, 25-14, 25-5) as Gurr had 10 kills, 11 digs, seven aces and two blocks. Junior Carin Sweeney (Woodbury, Minn.) had six kills and two aces while junior Courtney Wolf (Fredericksburg, Va.) added six kills and three blocks for the Bears. Ashley Bullard (Houston, TX.) led Coast Guard with 17 assists.

Salve Regina beat Mitchell in the other match of the day 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-10) as junior Deanna Salter (Westwood, Mass.) tallied a team-high seven kills against Mitchell while classmate

Brittany Canaff (Paramus, N.J.) posted six kills and sophomore Lisa Zabel (Madison, Conn.) notched 16 assists.

Junior Heather-Renae Powers (Niantic, Conn.) led Mitchell (4-7) with four kills while classmate Stephanie Davis (Ledyard, Conn.) had eight digs and two aces in the loss to Salve Regina.

The team heads to Albertus Magnus on Tuesday for a 7:00 match.
