Powers, Diggs Earn NECC Weekly Honors
ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Two Mitchell College volleyball players were
honored by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) on Monday
afternoon. Senior middle hitter Heather-Renae Powers was named NECC
Player of the Week while freshman outside hitter Shayna Diggs was
tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week.
Powers led the Mariners to a 1-0 opening week. She swung her way to
a weekly .357 hitting percentage and propelled Mitchell to a 3-1
victory over Albertus Magnus on September 9. Powers tallied a
team-high 17 kills (4.25 per set), seven digs (1.71 digs per set)
and three service aces (0.75 per set) for the week.
Diggs also excelled in Mitchell's season opener. She recorded seven
kills (1.75 kills per set), two digs (0.50 digs per set), two
service aces (0.50 aces per set) and a .167 hitting percentage in
the first collegiate match of her career.
Mitchell (1-0 overall) returns to action on Wednesday, September 16
at St. Joseph College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
