Volleyball Splits Doubleheader at Mass Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - The Mitchell College women's volleyball team lost 3-0 to WPI but bounced back for a 3-0 victory against Mass Maritime in a Saturday doubleheader at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

The Mariners (2-4 overall) lost the first match to the Engineers by scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-7 before rallying to beat the Buccaneers by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-20. WPI improved to 17-3 overall while Mass Maritime dropped to 0-12.

Senior Heather-Renae Powers had a team-high 11 kills against Mass Maritime while freshman Akesia Bernard added nine kills. Junior Jennifer Bordonaro led the offense with 26 assists and added two aces and two digs.

Against WPI, freshman Shayna Diggs led the way with three kills. Bordonaro finished with 11 assists and three digs.

Mitchell wraps up a six-game road swing at Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday, October 7 at 7 p.m.
