Volleyball Falls to Emmanuel, Johnson & Wales

 

PROVIDENCE – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader at the Harborside Recreation Center.

The Mariners (4-12 overall) lost 3-0 to Emmanuel College in the first match before falling 3-0 to host Johnson & Wales University in the second. Emmanuel won by scores of 25-17, 26-24 and 25-18 while Johnson & Wales won by finals of 25-13, 25-11 and 25-18.

In the first match, Rebecca Stanton paced Emmanuel (10-13 overall) with eight kills, three blocks and four digs while sophomore Rachel Swiezynski tallied 17 set assists and seven digs for the Wildcats. Mitchell was led by sophomore Shayna Diggs with eight kills and one dig while senior Jen Bordonaro had 17 set assists, 11 digs and six kills.

In the second match, Karlie Haack and Samantha Cureton each recorded seven kills in the win for the Wildcats (19-9 overall) while Ashley Rey had 16 set assists and four saves. Senior Stephanie McKeon notched six kills and six digs in the setback for Mitchell.

Mitchell returns to action at Anna Maria College on Monday, October 18 at 7 p.m.
