Volleyball Ends Regular Season with Split


LEICESTER, Mass. - The Mitchell College women's volleyball team split a pair of NECC matches at Becker College on Saturday afternoon to wrap up its regular season.

The Mariners began the day with a 3-0 loss to Newbury College but rebounded for a 3-0 victory against Becker. The scores for the first match were 25-15, 25-13 and 25-22 in favor of Newbury; in the second match, Mitchell triumphed by finals of 25-21, 25-19 and 26-24.

Senior Stephanie McKeon and junior Brittany Zaccaria each finished with eight kills to lead the Mariners against Newbury. Senior Jen Bordonaro handed out 16 assists and led the squad with 10 digs.

Against Becker in the nightcap, McKeon added another eight kills to lead the Mariners while Bordonaro added six kills and a match-high 22 assists. Sophomore Samantha Alevras-Tarbell, in addition to serving for six aces, contributed a team-high 21 digs to lead Mitchell's defensive efforts.

Mitchell ends the 2010 season with an overall record of 6-16. The Mariners finished with a 2-5 record in conference play and tied for sixth overall in the NECC standings.
