Volleyball Drops Two at DWC


NASHUA, N.H. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at Daniel Webster College on Saturday afternoon. The Mariners lost 3-0 in NECC action against the host Eagles and also suffered a 3-1 setback in non-conference play against Gordon College.

The Mariners (6-13 overall, 3-4 NECC) will return to action at home against the University of Saint Joseph on Thursday, October 25 at 7 p.m.

In the opener, Jennifer Finneran and Samantha Hill notched eight kills apiece and Chelsea Crawford added seven as the Eagles prevailed by scores of 25-23, 25-18, 25-13.
 
Ally Hayden dished off 19 assists and Brier Temple added four kills and a match-high 14 digs for the winners. Sarah Durocher racked up five service aces.
 
Junior Gloria Charles led Mitchell with five kills while sophomore Jaclyn Tempkins added four. Junior Nicole Terni picked up 15 assists and freshman Kaisea Caramante had 10 digs.
 
DWC finished with advantages in total kills (28-18), assists (25-19), aces (9-1), digs (48-37) and hit .089 while holding Mitchell to -.044.

Faith Gerdes and Lauren Kranyak had seven kills each and Jessica Burdick had five as the Scots came back from dropping the opening set with scores of 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-20.
 
The match featured 23 ties and 13 lead changes along with numerous rallies and back-and-forth play, but both teams struggled on the attack as both hit for negative percentages.
 
Joy Kimmel picked up 21 assists for Gordon, while Krystal Vander Ark had 18 digs, and Kranyak added 17.
 
Senior Arianna Thomas had eight kills and a match-best 22 digs for Mitchell, while freshman Amanda Garcia and senior Kendra Erskine had seven each. Terni added 29 assists.
 
Gordon finished with key advantages in total kills (36-28), aces (8-7), and assists (34-24) while Mitchell earned the edge in digs (80-79), and total blocks (8-5).
