Volleyball Blanked at Lesley


BOSTON – Lesley University cruised to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-11) sweep over Mitchell College in a New England Collegiate Conference women's volleyball match-up Saturday evening at the Buckingham, Brown and Nichols.

The Lynx improved to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the NECC. The loss dropped Mitchell's overall record to 4-12 and 0-2 in conference action.

The Lynx benefitted from an 11-0 run in the first set to push their advantage to 16-4. The stretch included a career-high six service aces from setter Emily Mardon.

The second set was played a little tighter by both teams. Leading 15-12, Lesley broke through with six unanswered points to help put the set out of reach for Mitchell.

The Lynx jumped out to a 3-1 lead in third set and never trailed as they closed out the match on a 9-0 run. Outside hitter Ciara Bruning led the way with four kills.

The Lynx finished the match going 37-for-85 on the floor with a .271 hitting percentage. Outside hitter Anni Abbruzzese led all attackers in the match with nine kills and added 10 digs for Lesley. Marden contributed 30 digs along with a career-high six service aces.

Freshman middle blocker Myia Williams led the Mariners with five kills while junior setter Nicole Caminiti added 12 assists. Junior libero Kaisea Caramante led her team with 11 defensive digs.

Mitchell returns to action at Newbury College on Wednesday, October 15 at 6 p.m.
