Volleyball Falls 3-0 at Regis

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College used set scores of 25-10, 25-17, and 25-12 to sweep Mitchell College, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference women's volleyball action.

The Pride improved to 19-8 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the NECC, while the Mariners fell to 5-15 and 1-5 in league matches. With the win, Regis tied the program record for wins in a season with 19, matching the win total of the 1995 women's volleyball team that went 19-11.

Game one started out as a back-and-forth battle as the score was tied 3-3 following a Kaisea Caramante kill, and tied 4-4 after a Pride service error. Regis responded with three straight points and later stretched it to an 8-2 run following a Kristina del Rey kill that made it a 12-6 game. Mitchell got as close as 12-8 after a block from freshman Janelle Rice and junior Amanda Garcia, but the Pride rattled off a 13-2 run to take game one.

Mitchell took an early 10-7 lead in game two following an Amanda Rowan kill. Regis answered by going on a 7-0 run, including kills from Nicole Connolly and Emily DeBarros, to take a 14-10 lead, but the Mariners fought back into the game and trailed 15-13 after three straight Pride errors.

After trading points, a Haley Schulte kill extended the Pride lead to 20-14. Mitchell clawed back to within 20-16 after a Rice kill and service ace, but a quick 4-0 spurt by the Pride - capped off by back-to-back kills from Connolly - put the game out of reach.

Regis jumped out to the early lead in game three as kills two kills from Sydney Trusty and a Suzie Ramos service ace made it an 8-2 game. Mitchell got as close as 11-6, but the Pride kept the Mariners at bay en route to closing out the match.

Kristina del Rey led the Pride attack with nine kills and three blocks. Connolly added six kills, three aces, and eight digs, while Sam Bliss had five kills of her own. Trusty, Courtney Mosher, and Shay Faber had three kills apiece, with Faber adding four aces and four digs. Tina Lathrop handed out a match-high 22 assists.

Mitchell was paced by four kills apiece from Rowan and Myia Williams. Freshman Lauren Tompkins, Garcia, and Rice each added two kills. Rice and junior Nicole Caminiti led the Mariners defense with seven digs apiece, while Caminiti added 15 assists and Rice had a team-best three aces.

Mitchell will next travel to Daniel Webster College on Wednesday, October 29 for a 7:00 p.m. league match-up.
