Volleyball's Garcia Earns NECC Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College junior Amanda Garcia was among the women's volleyball players recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday.

Garcia, a middle blocker, received all-conference honorable mention honors. All awards were determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.

Garcia led the Mariners in kills (199) and total blocks (32) this season. In eight conference matches she ranked second in the NECC in solo blocks (7), third in total blocks (13), fifth in blocks per set (0.45) and 10th in total kills (66). She finished with double-digit kills in nine matches—including three in league play—and recorded a season-high 18 kills in a five-set win over Bay Path College.

Garcia earned conference honors for the third straight season. Last season she was an all-conference second team pick, and in 2012 she was named NECC Rookie of the Year.

Mitchell finished the 2014 season with an overall record of 6-16 (2-6 NECC).
