Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision at Trinity
HARTFORD - Hunter Drews and Anne Hay combined for 14 aces as the Trinity College women's volleyball team defeated Mitchell College in three sets on Tuesday evening.
The win pushed the Bantams to 4-6 on the year while Mitchell fell to 2-7.
Junior Amanda Rowan led the Mariners with seven kills while sophomore Myia Williams added six. Senior Kaisea Caramante led the defense with a match-high 18 digs.
Trinity got off to a slow start against the Mariners in the first set, falling behind 6-2 early. The Bantams rallied back thanks to strong play from Drews and Hay who had five and seven kills, respectively, to help tie the set at 15 all. Trinity pushed ahead, taking a 23-18 lead before four straight Mariner points cut the lead to 23-22. However, the Bantams' offense was too much for Mitchell and finished off the set 25-22.
The second set was all Trinity, specifically Hay whose three consecutive aces early in the stanza caused the Mariners to take a time out trailing 7-1. The break did little to change momentum as Trinity finished on a 18-7 run to win 25-8.
Set three was also dominated by the Bantams who went up 9-3 and never looked back, winning the set by a score of 25-17 to complete the sweep.
Offensively, Trinity tallied 26 aces and 32 kills to go along with 26 assists, 11 of which came from Gina Buzzelli along with 13 from Shelby Deck, Claudia Varner also had a good evening and contributed five kills, two aces, and four digs in the game.
After seven matches on the road, Mitchell returns home for its conference opener against Lesley University on Saturday, October 3 at 1 p.m.
