Volleyball Falls in Four Sets at Lesley


CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University kept its perfect New England Collegiate Conference record intact as it downed Mitchell College, 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-17, 25-16), in conference play Wednesday night at the Nicholas Athletics Center.

The win propelled the Lynx to 6-10 overall and 3-0 in the NECC while the Mariners dropped to 3-12 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. 

The duo of Kaylee Deluga and Anni Abbruzzese powered the Lynx attack. Deluga notched her third straight double-double and match with 20 or more kills as she knocked down 20 while swinging a robust .548 to go along with 11 digs, three blocks, and three service aces. Abbruzzese followed with 16 kills on a .361 hitting percentage while digging up seven balls on the defensive end.

Sarah Hollis provided a strong game from the middle with 10 kills for Lesley. Jess Reynolds anchored the defense with 18 digs while Wing Li added 13. Vera Bednar reached a new career high for the third straight match, dishing out 42 assists. 

Mitchell's Amanda Rowan led the offense for the visitors with a team-high 11 kills on a .292 hitting percentage from the floor. Italia Krick knocked down five kills while Colby Zitoli, Ariana Carter, Janelle Rice and Myia Williams added three kills apiece. 

The Lynx held an advantage kills (48-28), digs (58-44), blocks (5-3), and hitting percentage (.281 -.008) on the night. 

Mitchell will return to action on Saturday, October 15 at Newbury College for a tri-match with the Nighthawks and Wentworth Institute of Technology.
