Volleyball Loses Two at Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. -- The Mitchell College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions in a tri-match at Lasell College on Saturday afternoon at the Lasell Athletic Center.

The Mariners began the day with a 25-14, 25-10, 25-19 defeat against St. Joseph's College (ME). Nikki Gerald had four kills while Arianna Carter and Marissa Sweeney added three apiece to lead Mitchell. Laurissa Amaker and Lauren Tompkins chipped in with three service aces each.

Mitchell's second match of the day came against host Lasell, which won by finals of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-13. Sweeney led the way with three kills, two aces and two blocks while Courtney Cappabianca contributed a team-high 12 digs.

In the opening set against Lasell, the score was tied at 8-8 before the Lasers won eight of the next nine points to take control. The second set was also close; Mitchell trailed by only two late in the stanza before Lasell finished strong to go up 2-0. The Lasers then opened up a big lead in the third set and cruised to the finish.

Mitchell (0-9 overall) will next play at Trinity College on Tuesday, September 26 at 7 p.m.
