Volleyball Opens Season vs. ECSU, Nichols

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- The Mitchell College women's volleyball team opened the 2018 season with a pair of 3-0 losses to Eastern Connecticut State University and Nichols College on Saturday afternoon at Geissler Gym.

The Mariners fell by set scores of 25-13, 25-9 and 25-10 in the opener as the Warriors pounded out 35 kills on 72 attacks with only eight errors (.375). Courtney Cappabianca paced the Mariners with four kills in the match while Nikki Gerald and Laurissa Amaker added three apiece. Newcomer Cameron Childs finished with 13 assists and six digs in her collegiate debut.

Mitchell played better in the second game of the day against Nichols. The Bison won by set scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-16, but the Mariners finished with 20 total kills on 77 attacks. Amaker led the way with six kills while Cappabianca contributed five kills and three service aces. Libero Shyla Phillips-Krick finished with a match-high 15 digs.

Mitchell (0-2 overall) will next host Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday, September 5 at 7 p.m.
