WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Mitchell College dropped a pair of women's volleyball matches on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the University of Saint Joseph (CT).

The Mariners began the day with a 3-1 loss to Saint Joseph's College (ME), losing by set scores of 25-12, 25-15, 23-25 and 25-17. Mitchell then lost in straight sets against the host Blue Jays by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-23.

In the opener, Laurissa Amaker led a balanced Mitchell offense with eight kills and also added 10 digs. Vanessa Gumbs, Ariana Carter, Nikki Gerald and Courtney Cappabianca supplied five kills apiece, and Cameron Childs finished with 26 assists and five service aces.

After dropping the first two sets, the Mariners rebounded in the third and used an early 6-0 run to seize control at 11-5. Mitchell led from that point on, though late in the set the Monks staved off two match points to cut the deficit to 24-23.
