Offense Takes Center Stage in Volleyball's 3-0 Win Over Pine Manor

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College coasted to a 3-0 victory over Pine Manor College on Thursday night in non-conference women's volleyball action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

The Mariners won by set scores of 25-12, 25-7 and 25-11 behind a solid offensive effort. Mitchell registered 29 kills on 63 total attempts and hit a season-high .270 for the match. Ariana Carter and Laurissa Amaker each finished with nine kills to lead the way, and Cameron Childs added a double-double of 22 assists and 13 service aces. Childs' 13 aces also tied for the most in a NCAA Division III match this season.

Aleah Lauti paced Pine Manor with three kills and added three digs.

Mitchell started the match hot, winning nine of the first 10 points to open up a big lead. Carter and Amaker each supplied a trio of kills in the set while Vanessa Gumbs added a pair.

The Mariners opened up the second set with seven straight points behind the serve of Childs. Mitchell finished with eight aces in the set—five by Childs—and wrapped up the final two points on aces from Courtney Cappabianca.

A 9-0 run early in the third set yielded a 12-3 Mitchell advantage, setting the stage for the straight-sets victory. Amaker contributed four kills in the final set while Cappabianca and Carter added three apiece.

Mitchell (2-12 overall) will next host Becker College on Saturday, October 13 at 11 a.m. Pine Manor (0-15 overall) returns to action at home against Mass. Maritime Academy on Tuesday, October 23 at 7 p.m.
