Volleyball Duo Earns NECC Honors

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – A pair of Mitchell College women's volleyball players were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday afternoon as the league announced its annual awards.

Freshman Cameron Childs was selected to the all-conference third team while junior Ariana Carter was named to the all-sportsmanship team. All awards were determined by a vote of the conference's 10 head coaches.

Childs, a setter, has started all 19 games in her first season with the Mariners. Over 66 sets she has handed out 382 assists and served for 64 aces, and she ranks third nationally in aces per set (0.97). In conference action she ranks third in the NECC in assists (190), assists per set (5.94), service aces (25) and service aces per set (0.78).

Carter has started all 19 games and leads the Mariners in total blocks (26). The middle blocker and team captain also ranks second on the team in kills (126) and kills per set (1.91), and in conference play she ranked first in solo blocks (10) during the regular season.

Mitchell (3-16 overall, 2-7 NECC) earned the eighth seed in the 2018 NECC Championship and will play at top-seeded Eastern Nazarene College in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 30 at 6:30 p.m.
