Volleyball Surges Past Medgar Evers

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The Mitchell College women's volleyball team picked up its third straight win on Tuesday night, storming past Medgar Evers College by a 3-0 final in non-conference action at Cougars Cave.

The Mariners, who hit a season-high .468 as a team, won by set scores of 25-8, 25-6 and 25-6 to improve to 3-2 on the season. Mitchell tallied 36 kills in the contest led by 11 by Olivia DeLoach and nine by Ariana Carter. Bree Rudolph added six kills and a match-high eight service aces while Lexi Hubbard (15 assists) and Claire Binfield (14 assists) split setting duties.

Mitchell got off to a slow start in the opening set but quickly came alive, clinching the stanza by winning 20 of the final 21 points. Rudolph served for 15 straight points during the stretch while Carter provided five kills and Ciera Moore chipped in three.

The Mariners opened the second set with five straight points and raced out to a 13-1 lead. The final three points of the frame all came on aces by Rudolph.

The final set began with 10 straight Mitchell points on the serve of Stephanie Costabile. The Mariners enjoyed an 8-0 run that bumped the margin to 21-2, and Laurissa Amaker supplied the final kill of the night to sew up the victory.

Mitchell will next play at Farmingdale State University on Saturday, September 14 at 2 p.m.
