Volleyball Falls at Eastern Nazarene in NECC Opener

QUINCY, Mass. -- The Mitchell College women's volleyball team dropped its New England Collegiate Conference opener by a 3-0 final to Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday afternoon at the Lahue Physical Education Center.

The Lions improved to 7-4 on the year and 1-0 to start NECC play. The Mariners slipped to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in league action with the result.

ENC's Halle Julian notched a match-high 14 kills to go with three total blocks on the day. Ruth Aguilar posted 12 kills and eight digs and Courtney McCarthy finished with a team-best 13 digs to go with three aces and a pair of kills. Samantha Caldwell dished out 33 assists while adding three kills and seven digs.

Ciera Moore paced Mitchell with seven kills on the afternoon while Claire Binfield and Olivia DeLoach each chipped in four. Cameron Childs finished with a match-high 18 digs.

The home team snagged a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-18 win in the first set. Eastern Nazarene widened the gap to 2-0 after claiming the second frame 25-14. The Lions then rolled to a 25-10 decision in the third to lock up their first conference victory of the fall.

Mitchell will next play at Trinity College on Tuesday, September 24 at 7 p.m.
