Volleyball Falls to Trinity in Three Sets

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Trinity College on Tuesday night in non-conference play at Oosting Gymnasium.

The Bantams (5-5 overall) were paced by Colette Scheffers, who had a game-high 11 kills in the win. Bree Rudolph led the Mariners with six kills while Olivia DeLoach and Arianna Carter each chipped in five.

Mitchell got off to a great start in the opening set and led 17-10 before Trinity turned the tables. The Bantams used a flurry of kills from Ally Conde and Hareena Johnson to level the score at 19-19. Trinity took the lead for good on a kill by Molly Bernstein and won four of the final five points to sew up the set by a 25-22 final.

The Bantams used the momentum to quickly put the second set away by a 25-14 count. Conde and Scheffers then combined for nine kills in the third, and despite a late attempt from the Mariners, the hosts wrapped up a 25-20 set win and a 3-0 match victory.

Scheffers led the game with 11 kills and was followed closely by Conde, who finished with nine of her own. Wyllie Boughton led the Bantams with 20 digs and added a team-high .200 hitting percentage with eight kills.
