Volleyball Wins in Straight Sets at Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The Mitchell College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory at Purchase College on Monday night, winning by set scores of 25-5, 25-21 and 25-22.

Mitchell, which improved to 7-6 on the season, held a 34-21 advantage in kills and enjoyed a 14-1 edge in service aces. Olivia DeLoach led all players with 10 kills while Bree Rudolph and Brianna Ley added five apiece. Lexi Hubbard dished out 17 assists while Cameron Childs supplied a match-high 18 digs. DeLoach, Childs, Hubbard and Danelys Baez-Arroyo each finished with three aces.

The Mariners broke open the first set behind a 10-1 run to build a double-digit lead at 14-4. Mitchell then took seven straight points on the serve of DeLoach and later wrapped up the set on an ace by Rudolph.

The final two sets were much tighter. The second stanza was tied at 21-21 before Mitchell rallied for four straight points to claim the set, getting back-to-back kills from Lexy Hanes and Ley during the stretch. In the final set, the Mariners trailed 22-19 but ripped off six straight points to end the match. DeLoach delivered a pair of aces and a kill in the final moments while Hanes also supplied a kill.

Mitchell will next play at the University of Saint Joseph on Wednesday, October 2 at 7 p.m.
