Volleyball Claims Sweep of Albertus Magnus

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Albertus Magnus College on Monday night in non-conference action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

The Mariners won by set scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-11 to improve to 8-8 overall on the year. Bree Rudolph supplied a match-high seven kills while Olivia DeLoach chipped in six to lead the Mitchell attack. Cameron Childs finished with 16 digs while Claire Binfield handed out 15 assists.

Diana Kalman led Albertus Magnus (7-12 overall) with four kills while Jesselle Guzman paced all players with 20 digs. Jaiden Williams added 12 assists.

The opening set was close until a 6-0 run put Mitchell up 19-10 following a kill by Ciera Moore. Lexi Hubbard served for a pair of aces during the stretch, and the Mariners coasted to the finish for the early 1-0 lead.

A pair of kills by Rudolph and back-to-back errors by Albertus Magnus yielded a 12-7 Mitchell lead in the second. From there the Mariners built the margin to 18-11 before closing out the set with seven straight points on the serve of DeLoach. Ariana Carter provided a pair of kills during the rally while DeLoach tacked on two aces.

Mitchell scored the first four points of the third set and never looked back. The Mariners led by double digits after going up 16-6 and finished strong to secure a season sweep of the Falcons.

Mitchell will next host Salem State University on Thursday, October 10 at 7 p.m. Albertus Magnus returns to action with a tri-match at Norwich University on Saturday, October 12 at 1 p.m.
