Volleyball Sails Past Bay Path
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over Bay Path University on Tuesday evening in New England Collegiate Conference play at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
Mitchell won by set scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-15. The Mariners, who have won four of their last five games, improved to 11-9 overall and moved to 2-3 in league play. Olivia DeLoach led all players with 14 kills and added a match-high 16 digs and a pair of service aces. Ciera Moore and Brianna Ley also chipped in seven kills apiece while Claire Binfield and Lexi Hubbard combined for 33 assists.
Marissa Courchesne paced Bay Path (3-14 overall, 0-5 NECC) with eight kills. Lydia Clifford added four kills and team highs of seven assists and 11 digs.
The first set was tight until Mitchell pulled in front 13-12 and didn't trail the rest of the stanza. Consecutive kills by Ariana Carter and an ace by Binfield helped open up a 19-15 lead, and Ley later added two kills to help clinch the set.
DeLoach had a monster second set with seven kills in eight attempts as the Mariners led throughout. The final set was competitive at the start, with the lead changing hands seven times leading up to a 10-10 stalemate. Mitchell then scored nine of the next 10 points to take control, with Stephanie Costabile serving for six points during the stretch.
Mitchell will next play at Connecticut College on Wednesday, October 23 at 7 p.m. Bay Path returns to action at home against Lesley University on Saturday, October 26 at 3 p.m.
