NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback against Trinity College on Tuesday night at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

The Bantams won by set scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-9 to improve to 2-5 overall. Ally Conde supplied a match-high 13 kills and hit .545 to pace the Trinity offense. Grace Sullivan added team highs of 14 assists and nine digs as the Bantams hit .293 for the match.

Bree Rudolph paced the Mariners with eight kills. Claire Binfield finished with a match-high 18 assists while Stephanie Costabile led all players with 15 digs.

In the opening set, Mitchell kept within striking distance and rallied late to tie the score at 22-22 on an ace by Binfield. However, a kill by Molly Bernstein gave the lead back to the Bantams, and the Mariners gave away the final two points with attack errors.

Mitchell jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second but was quickly reeled back in by the guests. Trinity scored eight of the next 11 points to tie the set at 8-8, then later took the lead for good on a kill by Conde that made it 15-14. That kill sparked a 6-0 run that gave the Bantams some breathing room down the stretch, and they closed out the set with a kill from Margaret McCarthy to go up 2-0 in the match.

Trinity slammed the door in the final set as Conde supplied half of her team's 12 kills. The Bantams never trailed after Sullivan served them out to a 3-0 start, and eventually expanded the margin to double digits midway through the stanza.

Mitchell (3-5 overall) will next host Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, September 22 at 7 p.m.
