Volleyball Swept at Suffolk

BOSTON -- The Mitchell College women's volleyball team lost by a 3-0 final to Suffolk University on Thursday night in non-conference action at Smith Court.

The Rams won by set scores of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-13 thanks to a balanced offensive attack that featured nine players contributing a kill. Suffolk hit .333 as a squad and was paced by McKenna Keowen's eight kills.

Allison Blum led Mitchell with five kills and also contributed seven digs. Brianna McDermott chipped in a team-high nine digs while Claire Binfield handed out 12 assists.

In the opening set, Mitchell led early but saw the margin disappear behind a 6-0 Suffolk run. The Mariners later trailed 20-14 before reeling off four straight points to pull within two, but the Rams responded with five straight to close out the set. 

Suffolk jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second set and eventually widened the gap to double digits. In the third, an early 10-0 run on the serve of Kenzley Bell put the Rams on top 12-2, and the hosts cruised to the straight sets victory.

Mitchell (3-10 overall) will next play at Albertus Magnus College on Monday, October 11 at 7 p.m.
