Volleyball Sweeps Past Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Mitchell College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over Albertus Magnus College on Monday night in non-conference action at the Cosgrove Athletic Center.

Mitchell hit a season-high .274 as a team en route to set victories of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-8. Jade Cain led the Mariners with a career-high 10 kills and hit .455 with zero errors. Olivia DeLoach added nine kills and a match-high 12 digs while Claire Binfield tacked on four kills and 31 assists.

With the win, Mitchell secured a season sweep of Albertus Magnus and improved to 4-10 overall. The Mariners also topped the Falcons 3-0 at home on September 9.

The Mariners led 9-6 in the first set when a serving spree by Molly Steel-Miller opened up a 15-6 advantage, with half of those points coming via an ace. The Falcons didn't get close the rest of the way, and Cain finished out the set with five kills.

Things were a little tighter in the second set, although a 5-0 run late in the stanza gave Mitchell some breathing room. Cain and DeLoach combined for four kills in the final six points to sew up the 2-0 advantage.

The Mariners got off to a 7-1 start in the third set and got little pushback from the hosts. The lead quickly ballooned to double digits and got to 16-2 following a kill by Steel-Miller. Sarah Aviles supplied the final point of the match with her first kill of the season.

Mitchell will next play at the University of Saint Joseph on Thursday, October 14 at 7 p.m.
