Volleyball Drops Road Match at Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Mitchell College women's volleyball team lost in three sets at Trinity College on Wednesday night at Oosting Gymnasium.

The Bantams (6-7 overall) won by set scores of 25-15, 25-18, and 25-14. Lola Braig paced Trinity with a team-high nine kills to go along with 10 digs.

Molly Steel-Miller led Mitchell with 10 kills, while Olivia DeLoach and Julia Lent both reached double figure digs, tallying 12 and 13 respectively. Claire Binfield handed out 17 assists and added nine digs.

The Mariners struggled out of the gate, falling behind 20-6 in the opening set and were never able to close the gap.

The second set proved to be much closer, as the score was tied at 9-9 early on. The Bantams then ripped off five straight points to jump ahead with Eva Lekovic and Lola Craig registering kills. The Mariners scored four of the next five points to get back in the mix, however Trinity never relented, maintaining their advantage and capping the set by taking six of the final seven points. 

Trinity maintained their strong play in the third set, once again going up early and holding onto their lead. The home team ended the game by scoring the final three points of the set, as Julia Torre delivered a service ace to close the action.

Mitchell (8-7 overall) will look to bounce back on Monday, October 10, when they host Albertus Magnus at 7:00 pm. Trinity, meanwhile, play host Amherst College on Friday, October 7, at 7:00 pm.
