NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Mitchell College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over Bay Path University on Tuesday night at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

The Mariners cruised to their 10th victory of the season, winning by set scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-22. Mitchell hit .236 as a squad and got back in the win column after dropping their conference opener, a five set marathon against New England College last Wednesday.

Olivia DeLoach led the attack with a team-high 12 kills to go with nine digs. Allison Blum chipped in 10 kills, Julia Lent supplied a match-high 15 digs, and Claire Binfield handed out 25 assists, another match-high.

The Mariners built a 12-point lead in the opening set and watched it grow, finishing with a 14-point advantage over the visiting squad. The second set proved more of the same, as an early six-point lead grew to a 20-13 advantage, leading to a Bay Path timeout. Out of the timeout, both Blum and DeLoach fired home kills, leading the Mariners to the set victory by nine points.

The third and final set was much tighter, as both teams traded punches, eventually finding the scored tied 19-19. Coming out of a Wildcats timeout, Binfield notched a kill to put Mitchell ahead, before a Bay Path service error and another DeLoach kill gave Mitchell a two-point lead. Binfield would set DeLoach up on one more kill, increasing the lead for the Mariners, who went on to cap the set 25-22.

Anastasiya Tsetsko led Bay Path with 13 kills.

Mitchell (10-8 overall, 0-1 NECC) will return to conference play on Wednesday, October 19, when they host Eastern Nazarene at 6:00 pm. The Wildcats, meanwhile, play at Fitchburg State on Friday, October 21.
