Volleyball Drops Two in Conference Tri-Match

WESTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team saw their three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday, dropping matches against Simmons University and Regis College in a tri-match hosted by the Pride at Higgins Court. The pair of losses dropped the Mariners record to 3-4 in GNAC play this fall.

The Mariners lost in straight sets both matches, falling by set scores of 25-18, 25-18, and 25-14 against Simmons, and 25-11, 25-15, and 25-21 against the Pride.

Mitchell (5-8, 3-4 GNAC) will return home for a non-conference match against Framingham State on Wednesday, October 4th, at 7:00 pm.

Match 1 – Simmons 3, Mitchell 0

Three Mariners recorded five kills in the middle match of the day, with senior Sarah Aviles (Griswold, Conn.), junior Allison Blum (Garden Grove, Cali.), and junior Bliss Brown (Rainbow City, Ala.) leading the offensive attack. Three Mariners also recorded double-digit digs against the Sharks, with sophomore Julia Lent (Miller Place, N.Y.) leading the way with a match-best 16. Brown added 13 digs, while sophomore Jenna Blankenship (Virden, Ill.) added 12, and recorded eight assists a pair of service aces.

Claire Conners notched a match-high 14 kills for Simmons and added 12 digs, while Chelsea Simmons handed out 16 assists in the win.

Match 2 – Regis 3, Mitchell 0

Junior Bliss Brown powered the Mitchell offense in the second match of the day, posting 11 kills while adding eight defensive digs. Julia Lent was the lone Mariner to finish with double-digit digs, tallying 10 to keep her streak of double-figure digs in every match this season alive. Jenna Blankenship was credited with 16 assists.

Grace Fabiano had a match-high 12 kills for the Pride, while Ahnasia Mckinney notched 19 assists, and Aryam Serrano-Monserrate and Kamdyn Tenorio had 11 digs apiece.
