Camren Varney

Mitchell College senior Camren Varney (Manchester, N.H.) delivered in both of his appearances for the Mariners on the week, starting one game and making one relief appearance and earning one win and one save, while pitching to a 1.08 ERA in 8.1 innings of work.

The hard throwing righty allowed just four hits across his two appearances, walking just two batters and striking out nine. Varney's number was first called on Wednesday, March 27, with two outs and a runner on first base with Mitchell hanging on to a 5-3 lead against Clark University in top of the eighth inning. Varney induced a strikeout to escape the eighth, and after issuing a walk to begin the ninth retired the three consecutive Cougars to pick up his second save of the season.

The senior returned to the mound and got the start on Friday, March 29th, in a GNAC game against New England College. Varney dominated the Pilgrims, tossing seven innings of four-hit ball, surrendering just four hits and one-run in the top of the first inning, while striking out six.
