FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team opened the 2019 season with a 24-6 setback at Farmingdale State University on Saturday afternoon.
Kyle Marsh and Jacob Anderson each netted a pair of goals to lead the Mariners. Nick Loris also finished with a goal and two assists while Jade Shields provided the final tally.
Mitchell trailed 4-0 after the first quarter but got on the scoreboard thanks to Shields early in the second. Marsh's first goal came at the 11:48 mark and closed the gap to 6-2, although the Rams ended the half with four unanswered goals to take a 10-2 advantage into halftime.
Farmingdale State dominated the third quarter, outscoring Mitchell 8-0 to increase the lead to 18-2. Anderson added both his goals in the fourth quarter, sandwiching a score by Marsh.
Goalie Marcel Quinlan faced 64 shots on the day and finished with 19 saves.
Mitchell (0-1 overall) will next play at Anna Maria College on Wednesday, February 27 at 5 p.m.
