Freyer is making his collegiate coaching debut with the Mariners after serving as assistant coach/defensive coordinator/junior varsity head coach at Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, Conn. NFA finished third and fourth in the Eastern Connecticut Conference during his tenure as assistant coach, and sported a 17-16 record in three seasons at the JV level.
Prior to Norwich Free Academy, Freyer spent four seasons as a head coach in the Norwich Youth Lacrosse Association, where he also served as the league's vice president and boys coaching coordinator.
A New Jersey native, Freyer was a three-sport athlete in high school, and was a defenseman for several adult lacrosse clubs in Connecticut and South Carolina.
Freyer, who earned a degree in applied engineering principles in mechanics from Excelsior College, is retired from the United States Navy after serving honorably for 24 years, and continues to serve the Navy as a civilian employee. He currently resides in Griswold, Conn., with his wife, Brenda, and has two children—a daughter, a middle school cheerleader, and a son, Dylan, a star soccer and lacrosse player at Griswold High School.
