Busy Weekend in Boston for Mitchell Sailing

BOSTON - The Mitchell College sailing team competed at a pair of one-day events on the penultimate weekend of the fall season.

On Saturday the Mariners raced at the Professor No Ringer, an event hosted by Brandeis University at the Boston University sailing center. Sailing was cool and breezy with a brisk Northerly wind bringing 8-12 consistently, with shots of 15-20 that left the course full of capsized boats. Connecticut College won the event, which consisted of eight races, while Mitchell placed 18th in the field of 18 teams.

Sunday brought more good weather as the action moved to The Crews Regatta, an event hosted by Northeastern University at MIT. With sunny conditions and a high temperature of nearly 70 degrees, racers had to deal with a middling Northerly that blew 8-12 most of the day. MIT races a selection of boats and the contest was held in the Tech, not the typical FJ or 420 that most events are sailed in.

A new boat for the Mariners meant that nobody quite knew what to expect. In B fleet, Rivkah Berkman and Nick Keuhnle cleaned up, finishing seventh out of 12 against a very competitive fleet. Mitchell trailed the native MIT sailors by only two points and led the fleet around the course in a few races. Overall, the Mariners finished an outstanding 11th out of 12 squads.

Mitchell will wrap up the sailing season at the SailBlackRock in Bridgeport, CT.
