CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Mitchell College softball team suffered setbacks to York College and Alverno College on Monday afternoon at The Spring Games.
The Mariners fell by a 10-1 final to York to start the day and were held to only three hits. Alex Lopez knocked in Mitchell's lone run in the game with a double in the fourth inning. Starting pitcher Suzanne Vachon gave up 10 runs--only three of which were earned--over 6.0 innings of work.
In the second outing of the day, Mitchell fell by a 13-3 final in five innings against Alverno. Madison Nicynski finished with three hits in the contest and knocked in a run for the Mariners. Starting pitcher Taylor Duchesneau was roughed up for all 13 runs (10 earned) and struck out four.
Mitchell (2-3 overall) will wrap up its Florida trip on Wednesday, March 6 with games against Bridgewater College (3:45 p.m.) and Penn State University New Kensington (6:00 p.m.).
