Mitchell's 2022 Fall Schedules Released
NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The 2022 schedules for the six Mitchell College fall sports programs were released on Monday. A total of 66 contests, including 34 home dates, make up the slate.
The men's soccer team will play a total of 15 matches in 2022, including eight on its home turf. The Mariners open the season with a pair of road games that includes a match-up with defending national champion Connecticut College on September 6. The first of eight home contests comes on Sept. 8 against Worcester State University, kicking off a three-match homestand that also features showdowns with Eastern Connecticut State University and Anna Maria College. Conference play begins on October 8 against Lesley University, the first of six New England Collegiate Conference clashes leading up to the NECC Championship.
Marc Davis enters his fourth season as head coach of the women's soccer program and has put together a 16-match slate for the 2022 campaign. The Mariners open the season with a trio of road games at Albertus Magnus College, Anna Maria and Mass Maritime Academy. The home opener against SUNY Old Westbury on Sept. 10 is the first of seven matches on the Mitchell turf, with non-conference dates against Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, John Jay College and Bryant & Stratton College highlighting the slate. The final six games of the regular season will set the stage for the NECC Championship.
The women's volleyball team will play a 21-game schedule under first-year head coach Tony Nocera. The Mariners return a veteran roster that has won 20 games over the past two seasons, and the senior class will be looking to add to that total. Mitchell opens the season with a home date against Coast Guard Academy on Sept. 1, the first of 12 games that will be played in the Yarnall Athletic Center. Six NECC contests also dot the schedule, all in preparation for the NECC Championship.
The men's and women's cross country teams open the season at the USJ Invite on Sept. 3 before hosting their annual home meet at Stenger Farm Park on Sept. 16. The Mariners will race in six meets in 2022 under head coach Tim Strong, who took over the program in the spring.
The men's golf team will tee it up at seven events this fall, five of which will be hosted by the Mariners at Shenecossett Golf Course in Groton, Conn. The highlight of the home dates is the 2022 MASCAC Championship, which Mitchell will host for the first time ever on October 2-3. Head coach Todd Peretz and his squad will look to improve on last year's third-place finish, the best in program history.
