Baseball Duo Nabs NECC Weekly Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass. – A pair of Mitchell College baseball players were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday.
Senior Dougie DelaCruz (Uncasville, Conn.) was named NECC Player of the Week, while fellow senior Tyler Daly (Wallingford, Conn.) was tabbed NECC Pitcher of the Week. Both earned their respective honors for the first time this season. The duo helped the Mariners to a 3-2 record on the week, which included victories in Florida over Coe College, the University of Minnesota-Morris, and Marymount University.
Across five games, DelaCruz slashed .471/.591/1.059, with two home runs, eight RBI, and six runs scored. His first home run of the week came in the opener of a doubleheader against Minnesota-Morris on Wednesday and was number 19 in his Mitchell career, passing Jeff Perillo for most all time in program history. DelaCruz also collected two doubles, a triple, and 18 total bases while only striking out one time.
Daly was dominant on the mound in his one start, tossing a seven-inning complete game shutout against Minnesota Morris, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out seven.
Daly has now made three appearances, including one start, and enters the new week with a 2-0 record. He has thrown 15.2 innings and has allowed just seven hits, two walks, and zero earned runs, while tallying 12 strikeouts. His 0.00 ERA is best in the conference and his 15.2 innings pitched is sixth most in the NECC.
DelaCruz is batting .477 across 11 games for the Mariners, with three home runs, 15 RBI, and nine doubles. He currently ranks among the top five in the conference in batting average (.477), on-base percentage (.564), slugging percentage (.932), runs batted in, home runs, doubles, hits, and runs scored.
The Mariners (8-3 overall) return to action on Tuesday, March 21, when they host Bridgewater State at 3:30 pm.
