Sestokas Earns NECC Rookie of the Week Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Thai-ler Sestokas (Danbury, Conn.) was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of baseball, as announced by the league on Monday.
Sestokas earned the honor for the first time this season and becomes the second Mitchell player to be named NECC Rokie of the Week this season (Sean O'Donnell, March 13).
The freshman outfielder delivered a big performance for the Mariners in a non-conference game against Keene State. Sestokas went 3-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, as Mitchell rallied for the road victory. He snapped a 2-2 tie in the top of the fourth with an RBI double to left center, before adding an RBI single the following inning, and also walked once. The three hits were the most in a game during his freshman campaign.
Sestokas enters the week batting .250 with 24 runs scored, 11 RBI, and two stolen bases in 23 games played.
Mitchell (27-6 overall, 10-0 NECC) will next play on Saturday, April 29, when they host Eastern Nazarene College for their final conference doubleheader of the regular season.
