Stokes named NECC Player of the Week
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Alfonzo Stokes (Bloomfield, Conn.) was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.
The senior guard averaged 22.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for Mitchell, who went 1-1 on the week. Stokes shot 55.2% from the field overall, 50% from beyond the arc, and also averaged 2.0 steals per contest, as the Mariners closed the week with an 8-2 overall record.
He began the week by scoring 21 points and grabbing eight rebounds in a win over the USCGA, which was the eighth victory in a row for the Mitchell men. Stokes then capped with week with a 23-point, 10-rebound double double in a loss to Connecticut College, both of which were game-best figures.
Mitchell (8-2) will play next at Springfield College on Tuesday, December 13th at 7:00 pm.
