Mariners Fifth After First Round at MASCAC Championship
GROTON, Conn. -- Mitchell College sits in a fifth place tie after the first round of play at the 2022 MASCAC Men's Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon at Shennecossett Golf Course in Groton.
Battling heavy wind and chilly weather, the Mariners finished the day with a score of 347, equaling that of Eastern Nazarene. Salem State University leads the field of eight schools with a team score of 309, with Springfield College (315) and Westfield State (323) rounding out the top three.
Salem State's Brian Cannata leads the field of 39 golfers heading into the final round, posting an one-over-par round of 72.
Jaxon Hinshaw paced the Mariners with a round of 85, good for a 19th place tie. Shamus McLean ended the day one stroke behind Hinshaw, while Jack Hayes and Ryan King carded matching scores of 88, sharing a tie for 23rd place. Micheal Thompson rounded out the scoring for Mitchell, shooting a 114.
A final round of 18 holes is scheduled for Monday, October 3rd, beginning at 9:00 am at Shennecossett.
