NASHUA, N.H. – Junior Frank Williams converted a Zachary Simmons pass with just 1:15 remaining in overtime to give Mitchell a 2-1 victory over host Daniel Webster College in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opener for both clubs Saturday at Eagle Field.
It marked the second time this season that Williams has ended a game in overtime with a winner. The Mariners improved to 2-5 overall (1-0 NECC) while the host Eagles slipped to 3-4 overall (0-1 NECC).
Junior Jason Kirby gave Mitchell a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute with an unassisted score coming out of the deep left corner and threading a shot between a defender and Eagle keeper Sean Hamilton. But DWC tied it in the 33rd as Lino Chaves one-timed a Eusebio Marote pass from 10 yards out.
From there, neither team could pull ahead until Williams' game winner 65 minutes later.
Hamilton finished with four saves for DWC, while junior Ramazan Sinani made five stops for the Mariners. Both teams finished even in shots on goal (6-6) and corner kicks (5-5).
Mitchell next visits Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday, September 25 at 4:00 p.m.
