Men's Tennis Bounces Back with 9-0 Win vs. Lesley
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College swept through doubles and singles play in a 9-0 victory over Lesley University on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference men's tennis action at the Mitchell Tennis Courts.
In doubles play, Mitchell cruised to 8-2 wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions behind the play of Adam Diaz and Orson Sinclair and Chris McKeon and Anthony Drake, respectively. The match at No. 2 was closely contested as Graham Cavanaugh and Zack Rocheleau outlasted Lesley's Harrison Sidell and Joshua Marcellino to win 8-6.
With the 3-0 lead after doubles, the Mariners picked up victories in straight sets in all six singles matches. The showdown between Diaz and Niko Marcolini at No. 1 went to a tiebreaker in the second set, with the former coming out on top 9-7 to post a 6-4, 7-6 win.
No other Mitchell player lost more than two games in any set or three in a match. Cavanaugh and Sinclair posted wins at No. 2 and 3, respectively, while Michael Berman won at No. 4. Michael Edwards and McKeon rounded out the winners on the day at the final two spots.
Mitchell will next play at Albertus Magnus College on Sunday, April 12 at 1 p.m. Lesley returns to action at home against Salve Regina University on Sunday at noon.
