MITCHELL CLOSES REGULAR SEASON WITH SPLIT, BORDONARO HITS ANOTHER HOMER
NEW LONDON, CT -- Mitchell Softball closed out their regular season with a split with fellow Association of Division III Indpendent College of St. Elizabeth. Mitchell won game one 9-7 and CSE the shortened game two, 11-6 (called after six due to darkness). Mitchell ends the regular season at 13-18 and 4-4 in AD3I play, St. Elizabeth's leaves at 11-14.
In game one, Mitchell College scored nine runs on 12 hits. Junior shortstop Liz Roy (Jewett City, CT) was three for four at the plate with a double, a triple, two runs and two RBI's. Sophomore catcher Sara Krolikowski (Bristol, CT) batted two for four with a double, two RBI's and two runs scored. Junior second baseman Lindsey Donelin (Niantic, CT) was two for at the plate with three runs and two stolen bases. Senior Catie Aleman (East Haddam, CT) pitched all seven innings allowing six runs on ten hits, walked two and struck out five.
College of St. Elizabeth fought a tough battle with six runs on ten hits. Sophomore centerfielder Samantha Donlon (Woodbridge, NJ) was two for four at the plate with two RBI's and one run scored. Junior shortstop Katrina Lajiness (Monroe Township, NJ) batted two for four with one RBI. Senior third baseman Michelle Owens (Rockaway, NJ) was two for four at the plate with two runs scored. Freshman Meaghan Vollkommer (Ridgewood, NJ) pitched the first three innings allowing seven runs on nine hits and striking out three. Sophomore Isabel Machuca (Union City, NJ) pitched the last three innings giving up two runs on three hits and struck out three.
In game two, Mitchell kept the energy going from game one with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Eagles answered back with three runs in the second. Each team scored another run to make it tied 4-4 after three innings. The Pequots grabbed another two runs and the Eagles scored seven runs to win the game, 11-6.
Mitchell College scored six runs on nine hits. Freshman centerfielder Jen Bordonaro (Winsted, CT) went one for three with her second homerun in two days, two RBI's and one run scored. Donelin batted two for three with two doubles, three stolen bases, one RBI and two runs scoreds. Krolikowski went one for two with one stolen base, and a double. Aleman pitched all six innings allowing eleven runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking three.
The Eagles scored their 11 runs off of eight hits. Owens went two for four with a double, three RBI's, two runs and stolen base. Vollkommmer batted two for three with two RBI's. Lajiness pitched all six innings allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking five.
Mitchell will prepare to host the New England Regional AD3I tournament this coming weekend in New London. College of St. Elizabeth will host Baruch College on Friday, April 25 at 3:00pm.
