Softball Sweeps Johnson State College For Third Straight Win
-- (Photo Courtesy of Tracy Bordenaro) -- Mitchell College took both games in Saturday's double header against Johnson State College in five innings apiece. The Pequots won 8-0 and 11-2 over the Badgers. Snow and bad weather has made this the first outing for Johnson State this season. The wins put Mitchell at 4-8 this season.
Leading the way for the Pequots in game one was freshman outfielder Jen Bordonaro (Winsted, CT) who went 2-3 with two doubles, a stolen base and two runs batted in. Sophomore catcher Sara Krolikowski (Bristol, CT) was 2-2 at the plate with a double, one stolen base and drove in two runs. Junior outfielder Lindsey Donelin (Niantic, CT) drove in two runs and stole one base finishing 1-2 at the plate. Senior Catie Aleman (East Haddam, CT) pitched all five innings of the shut-out, with no walks, three hits and three strike outs.
Junior outfielder Ashley Allegrini (Cos Cob, CT) was 1-2 at the plate and sophomore outfielder Erin Glock (South Woodstock, VT) and junior left fielder Christina Gilbert (Newport, ME) batted one for three for the Badgers. Junior Allie Cunningham (Manchester, NH) pitched five innings for the Badgers giving up eight runs on seven hits. She walked six and struck out eight.
In game two, Donelin crushed two doubles to drive in a run and score three times. Sophomore third baseman Kelly Reynolds (Waterford, CT) was 2-3 at bat with one RBI, a double and one run. Junior Liz Roy (Jewett City, CT) batted 1-2 with two RBI's, a triple and a run.
Aleman went the distance again for the Pequots striking out four and giving up eight hits and one earned run in game two.
Sophomore right fielder Miranda Robtoy (Barre, VT) was 2 -2 at the plate with a double for the Badgers. Christina Gilbert batted 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Freshman third baseman Stephanie Girard (Wallingford, CT) was 1-3 at the plate with one RBI. Sophomore Julie Gervaise (Enosburg Falls, VT) was 1-3 with two runs.
Julie Gervaise pitched all four innings for the Badgers with six strikeouts, three walks, seven hits and nine earned runs.
Mitchell College will face Whaling City rival Coast Guard Academy on Monday for a double-header starting at 3:00 PM. Johnson State College continues their southern trip Sunday at Bay Patch College for two games starting at noon.
